Track on the Tacchi d’Ogliastra

The Tacchi d’Ogliastra are limestone-dolomitic formations that cover a base of schist and whose name originates from the typical formation similar to a shoe heel. They develop south of the Gennargentu chain and in their southernmost part (Ussassai/Seui), they also take the name of Tonneri. This hike takes place in the territory of Ulassai where the Tacchi reach a unique majesty. A path of medium difficulty suitable for the whole family which takes place on a mule track and cart track , through an arboreal covering made up of oaks, strawberry trees with other shrubs and herbs typical of the Mediterranean scrub. A green paradise where the karst phenomenon has artfully created a set of walls, tunnels, cracks and caves, one of which will be the subject of our visit. The Land of Centenarians

Ogliastra is one of the 5 “World Blue Zones”, the areas of longevity: it is the consequence of genetics, active lifestyle, balanced diet and availability of natural resources exploited over the millennia for food, healing and more. This way, our grandparents were able to live a life in balance with nature and obtain, the benefit of longevity and health. An easy walk, suitable for most levels of fitness, along the coastline and inland to find the beautiful natural pools where it will be possible to find refreshment from the summer heat. Tracks of Shepherds’ through Forest and Natural Springs

Shepherds can be considered the soul of the traditional Sardinian economy and in some ways they are the expression of the lifestyle, made up of hard work and slow paced rhythms, which have contributed to making Ogliastra the land of centenarians. The shepherds are the true connoisseurs of the territory in which they let the flocks graze but they are also the connoisseurs of those elements necessary for life, on which to be able to count during the months of distance from families. Among these, great importance is given to water, a scarce and precious resource, which shepherds have always had to consider when planning their trips. Find out more …

Every Wednesday and Sunday

Suitable for the whole family, this walk through the countryside and along the shoreline (on the beach and granite rocks) will take you on an adventure to discover 6000 years of history. We will visit the Menhirs of Perda Longa – here called “is perdas fittas” – the Domus de Janas and the rock engravings in granite. Our walk will end as we taken a break to enjoy watching the sun go down over the mountains. Find out more …

A journey through time from the ancient age up to the present day, passing through the Middle Ages. A series of short walks will lead us to discover the most iconic places for the history and culture of Tortolì-Arbatax, a gem in the heart of the east coast of Sardinia. You will get to know about builders of towers, pirates and much more to better understand our people and our land. All in just over a couple of hours. Suitable for all levels of fitness. From the slopes of the Gennargentu to the Tacchi of Ogliastra, we will visit lakes, mountains, woods with fresh water springs, small towns, ghost villages, natural monuments, viewpoints, vineyards and we will meet the undisputed rulers of the countryside, that is, goats, donkeys, cows, sheep and more. A different hike every week to help you explore all of the wonderful tracks in the Ogliastra region. Perhaps we will visit the highest point in Sardinia, walk through a forest, explore caves or canyons or discover secret pools in which we can swim. A hike along a ring path around Monte Arista, rich in vegetation typical of the Mediterranean scrub (oak, juniper, strawberry tree, phyllirea, heather, myrtle, mastic, to name just a few) and with a beautiful complex of Domus de Janas (Fairies’ houses): you will be  able to climb inside them and discover their purpose. There will also be opportunities to take beautiful photographs. This is a medium difficulty hike, suitable for anyone in good physical condition, including children aged 8 and over. Find out more …

One of the highlights of a visit to Sardinia. A hike not to be missed. Su Gorropu is the deepest canyon in Italy and one of the deepest in Europe, enriched by small natural pools, where it is possible to find the rarest amphibian of Europe (Euproctus platycephalus). During the driest months the Rio Flumineddu flows below the level of the canyon to then re-emerge when the rains return abundant creating amazing scenarios of waterfalls and pools. Explore the canyon, climb over giant boulders and seethe towering canyon walls. A medium level of fitness is required. Find out more …
