Porto Santoru was a small port used until the sixties for the loading of minerals extracted in the nearby areas. Initially the area in which the port was located was the object of a concession for the mining of lead, zinc and iron, whereas in the 1950s the search was directed to barium minerals (barite). Further excavation was carried out into the nineties without leading to any serious mining activity. Porto Santoru therefore, represents a piece of the geo-mining history of Sardinia.

During this hike we will visit Cala Monte Santu, also known as the Egg Beach, a beach of rocks shaped like huge eggs. We will also see some beautiful rock formations – the tafoni – and some spectacular climbing routes, like those found on the well-known “Dillosauro”, an upwards finger-shaped stone, which is one of the most sought-after by the climbers.
